Choir Expectations

Singers who join will be expected to:

  • Love to sing!

  • Be able to sing on pitch consistently.

  • Commit to the entire choir season

  • Be on time to rehearsals.

  • Attend all rehearsals (we understand exceptions happen--please let us know if your child will miss a practice).

  • Focus and be respectful for the entire rehearsal and for all productions. Rehearsals are 75 minutes, and video productions and concerts are significantly longer. If your child cannot stay focused for that length of time, consider waiting another year before joining.

  • Bring printed music each week to rehearsals.

  • Learn their own part and practice at home. This is not optional. Your child will learn so much about music, singing, and performance each semester. With the few rehearsals we have, this can only be accomplished if singers learn their parts at home. We have online resources to help with at home preparation and practice.

  • Understand that we do our best to have every child seen in video productions, but cannot guarantee it. The purpose of our videos is to inspire a global audience with our music, and accomplishing this goal may or may not include the face of every singer.

  • Have fun!

Age Requirements

Children ages 10-18 are invited to join the choir. Singers must be 10 by December 31 of the current calendar year.

Rehearsal Times and Location

Fall semester will go from August-December.

Spring semester will go from February-May.

Rehearsals are Tuesdays, 5:15-6:30 PM at the BYU-Idaho Spori Building.

Tuition and Fees

Total tuition is $140 per semester ($100 for each additional sibling). Tuition can be paid in full at the start of the semester, or paid monthly: $35/month ($25/month for each additional sibling). Monthly tuition payments are due on the 1st of each month beginning in September for the duration of each semester (fall: September-December, spring: February-May).

A $100 per semester production fee is due the first month of the semester. This fee is non-refundable once rehearsals begin each semester.

We try to keep costume fees to around $60 or less per child, and will often reuse the same outfits for multiple productions and semesters.

Demo Video Instructions

Just like last year, instead of holding auditions, we are asking singers who would like to join the choir to submit a short “demo” video of themselves singing. You may register before submitting a demo video. Please note that videos will be due on or before the first rehearsal. The purpose of the demo video is for us to get to know your child and their voice. A demo video is required for all singers joining the choir this season.

Please prepare your demo video as follows:

1. Sing 30 seconds of (choose one):

  • a song of your choice

  • a song we have sung in choir, such as “O’ America,” “Let it Be Christmas,” “From a Distance,” etc.

  • A Christmas song

2. Say your first and last name and the name of the song you are singing at the beginning of the video like this: “My name is _________________ and I will be singing ________________.” If you are confident enough, please show us some personality!

3. Record the video on any device you would like. Upload the video to YouTube as an unlisted video and share the link with us on the “Submit Demo Video” tab.

Tips for the video:

  • You may sing with or without accompaniment. Either way is great.

  • Comb your hair, brush your teeth, and smile.

  • Either keep your hands at your side, or use your hands to express yourself.

  • Think about the words of the song. Seek to express, not to impress.

  • Relax and have fun! We want this to be as stress-free and painless as possible.
